Mendocino

After returning to the states from Shanghai, I spent a weekend with my family on the coast in Mendocino. Going from a mega-city of 20 million to the "unincorporated community" of Mendocino, population 894, was quite a change of pace, but it was nice to hike through redwoods instead of high rises.

Chicago Botanical Gardens

A few weeks ago the UChicago Glass Eyeball photo club made a trip out to the Chicago Botanical Gardens. The gardens were gorgeous and there were lots of opportunities for macro photography. Enjoy!

Lake Merritt Glow

I've been wanting to get a shot of downtown Oakland in the blue hour ever since I got home. Unfortunately, it has been raining most of the time. Luckily, there have been a couple of nice sunsets, and I was able to get a few shots I was happy with. I aso got a long exposure of a blue heron and an obligatory Christmas tree bokeh shot. Enjoy!

White Crane

I usually don't do much bird photography, but as I was shooting at Lake Merritt there was a blue heron just standing still in the water. It was dark out so I needed a long exposure (luckily I was already using a tripod). I don't think 5 seconds is par for the course when doing bird photography, but the heron stood still enough that it came out pretty clear.

Backyard Macro

Macro photography is significantly easier now that I have a flash. Here are two photos taken in my backyard. Enjoy!

Downtown Oakland and Other Misc.

Here are a few recent shots from Downtown Oakland, as well as some random ones from the past few months. Major thanks to the service people at quickr pickr, a website the batch generates html code to post flickr photos to blogs. I emailed them with a problem and they went above and beyond to help me out.

Senior Project and Recent Pictures

I am now done with all my classes in high school! For the month of May I am interning with local wedding and portrait photographer Stephen Loewinsohn. After helping him shoot a couple of weddings, portraits, and the cover for a recent issue of  East Bay Express, I feel like I have learned a lot about what it's like to be a professional photographer. Here are some of my most recent shots:
