Spain: People
The last of the Spain pictures are all of people on the street. These were probably the most interesting and challenging photos to take; there is always a fine balance between capturing a foreign lifestyle and creeping on somebody. Hopefully I did more of the former than the latter. Most of these were taken in San Sebastian's old town, which reminded me of Houhai (part of Beijing's old town) for a few reasons.
1) The old buildings were very interesting and people still lived in them despite their age.
2) There was a great sense of community: we stopped in a huge square in the middle of old town and found that there were packs of small children roving around the square by themselves. Everybody seemed come out and relax with their neighbors in the evening.
3) The main attractions in the old town were the bars.
I'm off to The University of Chicago this weekend, so expect photos from Chicago in the future!
A woman closes up shop in Bilbao
I was really excited about this shot because I was looking down on the bike lane early in the morning and though "Boy, this would look good with a blurred biker going through it". As it happened, a biker was coming by, but the entire shot was blurry. Luckily I second biker came about 30 seconds later and I was ready. It was cool to be able to take a picture exactly like I had envisioned it.
This woman was listneing to a man play guitar in the alley below.
This was taken in an old square in the San Sebastian old town. The square used to be a bull fighting ring, and the numbers above the apartments were to mark seating.
This was a shot that I felt very awkward taking because I was pretty much the only other person in the alley so I couldn't be very subtle. I don't think they noticed though.
I actually underexposed this so much that the silhouettes were invisible. Thank God for the Fill Light slider :)
I've had good luck with barber pictures in the past, so I figured I would try it out again.
There was a big group of people in with these signs gathered to protest Spain's unfair policy towards political prisoners. About 100 of them marched silently through the old town.
a quickr pickr post
