Night Markets
Today's post is about night markets - a source of cheap and delicious late-night sustenance for me and my classmates. The first two images are of a night market held outside the one of the gates to Fudan University, a quick two minute walk from my apartment complex. They stay open until 2am, and the most frequented stand, the barbecue stand, sells 1 yuan grilled vegetable skewers and 2 yuan grilled meat skewers. Pretty much the perfect midnight snack.
The rest of the photos in this set are from a night market in Kaifeng, Henan, that we visited as part of the CLS travel trip. This night market sold everything from peanut brittle to rabbit meat. One of my favorite things about both of these night markets was that the stalls are lit by bare incandescent bulbs, which makes for great lighting at night. Cheap food and good lighting is heaven for a perpetually hungry 20 year-old photographer....
